People also ask / FAQ

What plans are available for Brazil?

We currently show 15 plans for Brazil, with prices starting from $2.16. Available options range from 0.49 to 50 GB and 1 to 30 days, and some plans include daily unlimited data. Compare validity, data amount, and destination coverage before checkout so the plan matches your trip length and expected usage.

How do I install the eSIM after purchase?

After checkout, we email the QR code and setup details. Install it over Wi-Fi before you travel, then enable the new line in your phone's cellular settings when you arrive. Keep your primary SIM active if you need calls or SMS, and use the installation guide for step-by-step help on iPhone and Android.

Which networks does the eSIM use in Brazil?

The plan connects to local partner networks in Brazil. When carrier data is available, we show the operators we could identify for this destination, including TIM. Actual network selection can depend on signal, device support, plan routing, and local coverage, so check the carrier section before choosing a plan.

Which plan should I choose for my trip?

Choose a smaller plan if you mainly use maps, messaging, email, and light browsing. Pick a larger or longer-validity plan if you stream, use hotspot, upload photos, work remotely, or travel for more days. Compare the options above by data, validity, and price, or browse another country from the destinations hub.

What your eSIM connects to in Brazil

Plans route through one or more of these local mobile networks, picked automatically by signal strength:

  • TIM5G

Coverage and speed depend on the local carrier's infrastructure and your device's band support. Rural and indoor coverage may fall back to 4G or 3G.

Network Reality

eSIMSupra connects to Vivo, Claro, TIM networks in Brazil, offering excellent coverage. 5G in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, and Belo Horizonte. Amazon and rural areas may have LTE-only coverage.

Activation Tip

Brazil requires CPF (tax ID) for some SIM registrations, but eSIM tourist plans typically bypass this requirement.

Price Context

Vivo tourist SIM costs R$50-100. eSIMSupra plans start from R$20.

Choosing an eSIM for Brazil

Brazilian SIM cards normally require a CPF — the national tax ID — which visitors do not have. An eSIM avoids that entirely, though it runs on TIM rather than Vivo, the coverage leader.

The CPF problem, and why an eSIM sidesteps it

Buying a local prepaid SIM in Brazil generally requires a CPF, the Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas tax identification number. Foreign visitors do not have one, and obtaining one involves a bureaucratic process that is not realistic for a short trip.

Travellers work around this in various unsatisfactory ways — asking a hotel employee to register a SIM in their name, buying from vendors who bypass the requirement, or simply going without. None of these are good options.

A travel eSIM removes the question. The profile is issued against your purchase rather than against a Brazilian identity document, so there is nothing to register and nobody's CPF to borrow. For most visitors this is the strongest single argument for using one in Brazil.

TIM, not Vivo

Brazil plans roam on TIM. Vivo, which has the best coverage in the country, is not in the roaming set.

In the major cities this is fine. São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília and Belo Horizonte all have 5G and dense TIM coverage, and the populated southeast — where the majority of Brazilian travel happens — is well served.

Brazil is enormous, though, and coverage thins fast outside that corridor. The Amazon basin, the Pantanal, the sertão interior and long stretches of the northeastern coast between cities are all places where TIM's network is materially weaker than Vivo's. On those routes expect substantial gaps regardless of plan size.

Sizing a Brazilian trip

Brazilian travel is app-heavy. Ride-hailing is the default way to move around cities and is close to essential in São Paulo and Rio, WhatsApp is the standard channel for everything including business and bookings, and translation gets constant use.

Budget around 1 GB per day for a city trip, rising with regular photo and video sharing. WhatsApp voice and video calling works normally in Brazil and is heavily used, which adds up.

Brazilian plans sit at the higher end of our catalogue — 5 GB over 30 days is $16.64 — reflecting roaming wholesale rather than local retail. Brazilian domestic mobile pricing is much cheaper, so comparing against what a resident pays is misleading.

Practical notes

Install the profile before you fly while on home Wi-Fi. Arriving in São Paulo or Rio with working data and a functioning ride-hailing app is materially safer than arriving without, particularly at night.

A Brazil plan covers Brazil only. Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru each have their own plans — relevant for Iguazú, where the falls span the Brazilian and Argentine sides and crossing takes you out of coverage.

Brazil is a single time zone plan-wise but spans four actual time zones and roughly the area of the continental United States. Domestic flights are the norm; do not underestimate the distances.

Brazil eSIM questions

Do I need a CPF to use an eSIM in Brazil?

No. Local Brazilian prepaid SIMs generally require a CPF tax identification number, which visitors do not have and cannot easily obtain. A travel eSIM is issued against your purchase instead, so there is nothing to register.

Which Brazilian network will my eSIM use?

Brazil plans roam on TIM. Vivo, which has the best national coverage, is not included. The major cities and the populated southeast are well covered; the Amazon, Pantanal, interior and stretches of the northeastern coast are materially weaker.

Will WhatsApp calling work in Brazil?

Yes. WhatsApp voice and video calling works normally in Brazil and is the standard communication channel for personal and business use alike. Budget data accordingly, since it is used far more heavily there than in most destinations.

Does a Brazil eSIM cover Argentina for Iguazú?

No. The falls span the Brazilian and Argentine sides and crossing takes you out of coverage. Argentina has its own plan, as do Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru.

How much data do I need for two weeks in Brazil?

Around 5 GB is a reasonable baseline for a city-based trip, or more with heavy photo and video sharing. Brazilian travel is app-heavy — ride-hailing and WhatsApp calling run constantly — so consumption tends to exceed comparable European trips.
