Canada plans can use Bell, Rogers, Telus, Freedom Mobile, Videotron and EastLink. That is the widest roaming set of any country in our catalogue, and it exists because Canadian coverage is genuinely regional — Videotron is a Quebec operator, EastLink is Atlantic Canada, Freedom is concentrated in the urban south.

For a visitor this is close to ideal. A trip that runs Toronto to Montreal to Halifax passes through territory where different carriers are strongest, and a plan tied to one of them would leave gaps that this one does not.

5G is available across Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary and Ottawa. The Trans-Canada corridor and the populated south are well covered on LTE at minimum.

Canadian plans come in two tiers and the naming is unhelpful, so here is the actual difference. Standard plans route out through Poland. Plans labelled Premium route out through the United States.

Premium is not faster and does not have better Canadian coverage. What it gives you is a North American exit IP, which behaves more predictably with services that check where you are connecting from — some streaming catalogues, banking apps and regional content.

It costs considerably more. 5 GB over 30 days is $11.40 standard against $24.74 Premium; 10 GB is $19.80 against $45.14. Unless you specifically need North American routing, standard is the better buy and the coverage is identical.

Everything above applies to the populated south, where the overwhelming majority of Canadian travel happens. The territories — Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut — are a different proposition entirely.

Expect LTE at best in the settlements and nothing at all between them. Distances there are measured in hundreds of kilometres of genuinely uninhabited ground, and no travel eSIM changes that. If you are driving the Dempster or flying into a northern community, plan for offline.

Canadian domestic mobile pricing sits at the high end internationally, and roaming rates reflect that. Visitors arriving on a US or European plan frequently face daily rates that make a two-week trip cost more in connectivity than in accommodation for some nights.

That gap is the reason a prepaid plan is a bigger saving here than in most destinations, and it is worth doing the arithmetic against your home carrier's daily rate before you travel.
