What plans are available for France?

We currently show 17 plans for France, with prices starting from $0.80. Available options range from 0.49 to 50 GB and 1 to 180 days, and some plans include daily unlimited data. Compare validity, data amount, and destination coverage before checkout so the plan matches your trip length and expected usage.

How do I install the eSIM after purchase?

After checkout, we email the QR code and setup details. Install it over Wi-Fi before you travel, then enable the new line in your phone's cellular settings when you arrive. Keep your primary SIM active if you need calls or SMS, and use the installation guide for step-by-step help on iPhone and Android.

Which networks does the eSIM use in France?

The plan connects to local partner networks in France. When carrier data is available, we show the operators we could identify for this destination, including Orange. Actual network selection can depend on signal, device support, plan routing, and local coverage, so check the carrier section before choosing a plan.

Which plan should I choose for my trip?

Choose a smaller plan if you mainly use maps, messaging, email, and light browsing. Pick a larger or longer-validity plan if you stream, use hotspot, upload photos, work remotely, or travel for more days. Compare the options above by data, validity, and price, or browse another country from the destinations hub.

What your eSIM connects to in France

Plans route through one or more of these local mobile networks, picked automatically by signal strength:

  • Orange5G

Coverage and speed depend on the local carrier's infrastructure and your device's band support. Rural and indoor coverage may fall back to 4G or 3G.

Network Reality

eSIMSupra connects to Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom, Free Mobile networks in France, offering excellent coverage. 5G available in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and most cities. Rural countryside and Alps may have LTE-only coverage.

Activation Tip

No registration required for EU roaming or local eSIM plans.

Price Context

Orange roaming costs €8-12/day. eSIMSupra plans start from €4.

Choosing an eSIM for France

French plans run on Orange alone. That sounds like a limitation and is actually the opposite — Orange has the best coverage in France, including the rural areas where other networks thin out.

One network, and it is the right one

France plans roam on Orange only. No SFR, no Bouygues, no Free Mobile.

Single-carrier roaming is usually a warning sign, because it removes the fallback you get when a plan can hop between networks. France is the exception worth knowing about: Orange has the strongest coverage in the country and its advantage is largest in rural areas — precisely where a fallback would otherwise matter.

So the trade-off lands well here. You lose redundancy and gain the network that has the fewest gaps to begin with. Compare that with Germany or Switzerland, where our plans route through the second and third networks rather than the leader.

Paris is easy; the countryside and the Alps are the real questions

5G is live across Paris, Lyon, Marseille and most sizeable cities, and Orange's urban network is dense. City travel needs no planning.

Rural France is where Orange earns its reputation, though 'better than the alternatives' is not the same as 'complete'. Deep countryside in the Massif Central, the Dordogne valleys and the Pyrenean foothills will drop to LTE and occasionally to nothing.

The Alps follow altitude rather than remoteness: resort towns and valley floors are well covered, high passes and off-piste terrain are not. If you are hiking or ski-touring above the lifts, download offline maps and do not treat mobile data as a safety system.

Sizing a French trip

France runs moderately on data. Cities are walkable and well supplied with café Wi-Fi, but the TGV network encourages multi-city trips that involve more live navigation and lookup than a single-city stay.

A week in Paris with messaging and photos sits comfortably at 3 GB. Two weeks taking in Paris, Lyon and the south is a 5 GB trip. Driving Provence or Brittany pushes toward 10 GB because navigation is live for hours.

TGV routes have reasonable trackside coverage with the usual tunnel gaps. Regional TER lines into the countryside are patchier.

Where the plan stops

This is a France plan. It covers mainland France. It does not extend to Belgium, Spain, Italy, Germany or Switzerland, and it does not carry EU roaming rights the way a French domestic SIM would.

Two specifics worth checking. Monaco is a separate territory and is not covered by a French plan. And the overseas départements — Guadeloupe, Martinique, Réunion, French Guiana — are not covered by a mainland France plan either, despite being part of France politically; they have their own entries in the catalogue.

Activation needs no registration or paperwork. Install before you fly while on home Wi-Fi.

France eSIM questions

Which French network will my eSIM use?

France plans roam on Orange only. Orange has the strongest coverage in France, with its largest advantage in rural areas, so single-network roaming is less of a compromise here than it would be elsewhere.

Does a France eSIM work in Monaco or the overseas départements?

No. Monaco is a separate territory and is not covered. Guadeloupe, Martinique, Réunion and French Guiana are also not covered by a mainland France plan despite being part of France politically — they have their own plans in the catalogue.

Can I use a France eSIM elsewhere in the EU?

No. This is a France-only plan. Unlike a French domestic SIM it does not carry EU roaming rights, so Belgium, Spain, Italy, Germany and Switzerland each need their own plan or a regional option.

Will I have signal in the French Alps?

In resort towns and on valley floors, generally yes. On high passes and off-piste terrain, often not — coverage there follows altitude rather than distance from town. Download offline maps before ascending and do not rely on mobile data as a safety system.

How much data do I need for a week in France?

Around 3 GB for a week in Paris, nearer 5 GB for a multi-city trip by TGV, and 10 GB if you are driving rural Provence or Brittany where live navigation runs for hours.
